ISRO Prepares for GSLV-F14/INSAT-3DS Mission Launch on February 17

 

Sriharikota:  The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is gearing up for the launch of the GSLV-F14/INSAT-3DS mission, scheduled to take place from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota on February 17, 2024. This marks the 16th mission for the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV).

The primary objective of this mission is to deploy the INSAT-3DS meteorological satellite into the Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO). Once in orbit, a series of subsequent orbit-raising maneuvers will be conducted to ensure that the satellite is accurately positioned in a Geo-stationary Orbit.

The GSLV is a formidable three-stage launch vehicle, standing at an impressive length of 51.7 meters and boasting a liftoff mass of 420 tonnes. It is equipped with advanced technology and capabilities to deliver payloads into various orbits, making it a crucial component of India’s space exploration endeavors.

INSAT-3DS, the payload for this mission, is a meteorological satellite designed to enhance India’s weather monitoring and forecasting capabilities. Positioned in Geo-stationary Orbit, the satellite will provide valuable data for a range of applications, including agriculture, disaster management, and climate research.
