London: Three Indian scientists, Professors Rahul R. Nair, Mehul Malik, and Dr Tanmay Bharat, are among the distinguished recipients of this year’s Blavatnik Awards for Young Scientists in the UK. The awards recognize their groundbreaking work in the fields of chemical, physical, and life sciences.
The honorees, including others, will be celebrated at a black-tie gala dinner and award ceremony in London on February 27, where they will collectively receive grants totaling £480,000. The prestigious awards aim to provide early career scientists with recognition and funding, fostering transformative scientific breakthroughs.
Key Highlights:
Professor Rahul R. Nair, a materials physicist at The University of Manchester, receives £100,000 for developing novel membranes based on two-dimensional materials, exploring applications in energy-efficient separation and filtration technologies.
Professor Mehul Malik, a Quantum physicist and Professor of Physics at Heriot-Watt University, is honored for advancing quantum communications through revolutionary techniques, enabling noise-robust and high-capacity quantum networks.
Dr Tanmay Bharat, a structural microbiologist and programme leader at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, receives recognition for his cutting-edge cryo-ET techniques, creating atomic-level images with biomedical implications.
Both Bharat and Malik will be granted £30,000 for their impactful research.
The Blavatnik Awards, now in its seventh year, have donated £3.3 million to scientists across UK academia since their inception. The laureates will also present their research at a free public symposium at the RSA House in London following the award ceremony.
