India Transcends ‘Sleeping Giant’ Status, Embraces New Era of Potential, says Vice-President

 

New Delhi: In a powerful address at the 37th Convocation of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), Vice-President Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar declared that India has shed the label of the ‘sleeping giant’ and is now a nation realizing its vast potential. The Vice-President urged graduating students to seize the incredible momentum, leverage the economic boom, and embrace disruptive technologies to shape the future of Bharat@2047.

Highlighting India’s transformative growth story, Vice-President Dhankhar emphasized that the country is no longer confined by its potential but has firmly established itself as a force to be reckoned with. He encouraged students to see beyond narrow definitions of success and explore the vast landscape of possibilities that lay ahead.

“India’s economic vitality, characterized by extraordinary infrastructural growth, widespread technology penetration, and a commitment to transparent and accountable governance, is not just a buzzword but a ground reality,” stated Vice-President Dhankhar. He pointed to India’s resilient financial ecosystem, fueled by an inclusive digital payment system, which has become a global model, asserting, “not only do we use it, we export it.”

Reflecting on India’s global leadership, the Vice-President highlighted the recent G20 Summit held in New Delhi as a testament to the nation’s inclusivity and participation on the world stage. He underscored India’s role in engaging all states and union territories, inducting the African Union as a G20 member, and launching the Global Biofuel Alliance, positioning India as the voice of the Global South.

Addressing the graduating students, Vice-President Dhankhar emphasized the importance of embracing disruptive technology, citing India’s dynamic startup culture as a global example of innovation. He urged students to be “true footsoldiers of Bharat@2047” by daring to think differently and fearlessly challenging the status quo.

The Vice-President’s call for prioritizing collaboration over competition resonated with the audience, encouraging graduates to redefine success on their own terms. “Embrace your individuality, pursue your passions, and be the architects of a new, dynamic India,” he concluded.

The convocation ceremony was attended by Prof. Nageshwar Rao, Vice-Chancellor of IGNOU, Prof. Uma Kanjilal and Prof. Satyakam, Pro Vice-Chancellors of IGNOU, and other dignitaries. The event celebrated not just academic achievements but also marked the beginning of a new era for the graduating students as they embark on their journeys in a transformed India.
