Ropar: The Indian Institute of Technology Ropar (IIT Ropar) proudly inaugurated the Dr. Ranbir Singh Tinkerers’ Lab (TL), a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to fostering innovation, creativity, and hands-on learning for engineering students. This cutting-edge maker space, accessible to all students around the clock, has been established through funding from the Maker Bhavan Foundation (MBF) and a generous donation from philanthropist Dr. Ranbir Singh.
The inauguration ceremony, held on the campus, saw a gathering of faculty members, students, and esteemed guests, marking a significant milestone in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education at IIT Ropar.
Dr. Ranbir Singh Tinkerers’ Lab is envisioned as a vibrant hub for aspiring engineers and innovators. Beyond being just a workspace, the lab encourages students to view technology as a tool for creativity and practical problem-solving. It provides a platform where students can experiment, tinker, and develop real-world solutions to complex challenges.
Dr. Ranbir Singh, an honorary alumnus of IIT Ropar, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, saying, “Investing in the future of our youth is crucial. Tinkerers’ Lab will provide students with the resources they need to turn their ideas into reality. I hope this facility ignites a spark of creativity in all who enter.”
The lab is equipped with advanced tools and technologies that allow students to explore and execute projects freely outside standard academic hours. This open access will facilitate original and innovative work, empowering students to go beyond traditional academic boundaries.
Director of IIT Ropar, Dr. Rajeev Ahuja, highlighted the importance of hands-on learning and innovation, stating, “At IIT Ropar, we believe in the power of experiential learning. The Dr. Ranbir Singh Tinkerers’ Lab will serve as a catalyst for innovation and a space where students can gain practical skills that complement their academic pursuits.”
This initiative reflects IIT Ropar’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for engineering excellence and innovation. With the support of the Maker Bhavan Foundation and the dedicated efforts of both the faculty and students, Dr. Ranbir Singh Tinkerers’ Lab is set to become a transformative space where creativity meets engineering, and where future leaders can develop the skills required to shape the technology of tomorrow.
