Goa: The 55th edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) honored legendary actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao (ANR) in a centenary celebration titled “Centenary Special ANR: Celebrating the Life and Works of Akkineni Nageswara Rao”. Held at the Kala Academy in Panaji, the session featured ANR’s son, actor Nagarjuna Akkineni, in an engaging conversation with acclaimed actress Khushbu Sundar.
The session commenced with a moving tribute video showcasing ANR’s illustrious journey and his transformative impact on Telugu cinema. Nagarjuna shared deeply personal insights into his father’s vision and work ethic, highlighting his enduring influence on the Indian film industry.
“My father’s goal was clear: to make Telugu cinema a force to be reckoned with,” Nagarjuna said, emphasizing ANR’s pivotal role in founding Annapurna Studios, a landmark institution in Indian cinema. “His belief that language should not be a barrier was ahead of its time,” he added, underscoring ANR’s efforts to make Telugu films resonate with audiences across India.
In a candid discussion about sustaining ANR’s legacy, Nagarjuna credited his family’s initiatives, such as the Annapurna College of Film and Media, for carrying forward his father’s dream of nurturing new talent. “It’s about creating a platform for the next generation of filmmakers,” he remarked, reflecting on the importance of adapting ANR’s vision for modern cinema.
Responding to audience queries about a potential biopic on ANR, Nagarjuna revealed plans for a documentary instead. “A documentary would better capture the essence of his life and vision,” he explained, hinting at a project that would offer an intimate and authentic portrayal of the cinematic icon.
