Bhubaneswar: In a significant move to enhance urban green spaces and community facilities, Dr. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, Minister for Housing & Urban Development and Public Enterprises, and Chairman of the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), inaugurated three parks and a musical fountain at APJ Abdul Kalam Park today. The event witnessed the presence of MLA of Ekamra, Babu Singh, Vice Chairman of BDA Dr. N. Thirumala Naik, and other senior officials.
The Minister, who attended the musical fountain show at APJ Abdul Kalam Park, interacted with visitors and reiterated the city’s dedication to creating vibrant public spaces for its residents. The inauguration is part of Bhubaneswar’s broader vision to balance urban development with ecological sustainability and recreational opportunities.
The K7 Kalinga Nagar Park, spread across 4.7 acres, has transformed a previously underutilized urban space into a lively hub of recreation and relaxation. The park features beautifully landscaped flower beds and fruit orchards, a dedicated children’s play area, a jogging track, and a versatile sports court that accommodates activities like basketball and skating. With modern fitness facilities and spaces designed for community interaction, the park represents an ideal model for urban green spaces.
The Smart Park-4 at AG Colony covers an area of 2 acres and integrates three distinct segments catering to fitness, cultural activities, and community engagement. It includes a festive ground for events, a dedicated children’s play zone with safe and interactive facilities, and a modern sports facility equipped with advanced resources to encourage fitness and athletic pursuits. Together, these features make the park a dynamic addition to the city’s urban landscape, fostering a vibrant and inclusive environment.
The Anant Vihar Phase III Park in Pokhariput, though compact at 0.8 acres, demonstrates the transformative potential of smaller green spaces. The park offers facilities such as an open gym, a jogging track, and a children’s play area. Its lush greenery, coupled with vibrant seasonal blooms, provides a serene retreat for residents, promoting relaxation, fitness, and a sense of community in the neighborhood.
The highlight of the day was the inauguration of the Musical Fountain at APJ Abdul Kalam Park. This mesmerizing feature combines water, light, and music in a synchronized display that captivated visitors. The 20-minute show depicted the rich art, culture, and traditions of Odisha through a unique blend of light and sound. The fountain is situated amidst expansive lawns and an amphitheater, enhancing the park’s appeal as a cultural and recreational destination. Additional amenities, including an open library and cafeteria, further encourage community interaction and leisure activities, making it a must-visit spot in the city.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mahapatra emphasized the importance of such developments, stating, “These parks and facilities are a step toward making Bhubaneswar a model urban city with ample green spaces and modern amenities. They reflect our commitment to improving the quality of life for our residents while promoting environmental sustainability.”
The inauguration of these parks and the musical fountain marks a significant milestone in Bhubaneswar’s journey toward sustainable urban development. By blending recreation, cultural engagement, and environmental responsibility, these initiatives enrich the lives of residents and set a benchmark for urban planning across the region.
