Leh: Day 3 of the Royal Enfield Ice Hockey League Season 2 delivered unforgettable moments and high-octane action at the Nawang Dorjay Stobdan Stadium in Leh. Namhail Nangmo etched her name in history by scoring the fastest goal ever recorded in the league, while defending champions in both men’s and women’s categories showcased their dominance with commanding victories.
Organized in collaboration with the UT Administration of Ladakh and the Ice Hockey Association of Ladakh, the league continues to enthrall fans with 30 matches spread over ten days.
The day opened with a spectacular display by the Humas Warriors, who defeated United Nubra 6-1 in the men’s category. Zahit Ali’s precise wrist shot just before the end of the first period broke the deadlock, followed by Issa Mohd’s last-second goal for a 2-0 lead.
In the second period, the Warriors intensified their attack, with Ali scoring his brace and goals from Nasoor-ud-din and Issa Mohd extending the lead to 5-0. Although Nubra managed a consolation goal in the final period, captain Waseem Bilal sealed the victory with a dramatic wrist shot in the closing seconds.
Defending champions Kang Sings showcased their mettle with a 4-1 win over Changla Blasters. Early goals by Stanzin Lotos and Tashi Tsewang gave the team a strong lead. While Changla attempted a comeback with a goal by Tunstup in the final period, Kang Sings responded swiftly with two more goals, securing their second consecutive victory.
The women’s tournament began with reigning champions Maryul Spamo delivering a dominant 4-0 win over Shakar Chiktan Queens. The match started with a historic moment as Namhail Nangmo scored just 15 seconds into play, setting a new league record. Nangmo added another goal in the first period, giving her team a strong lead.
Exceptional defense characterized the second period, with both teams unable to convert scoring opportunities. However, in the final period, Maryul Spamo reasserted their dominance with goals by Rinchen Dolma and Padma Chorol, securing a resounding victory.
The final match of the day saw Changthang Shans overpowering Maryul Spawo with a 6-2 win. Quick goals by Konchok Namgyal and Phuntsog Namgyal set the tone in the first period. The Shans’ relentless offense in the second period included a brace by Tsewang Dorjey, taking the score to 6-1. While Spawo managed a late goal, the Shans’ defense held firm to secure their victory.
With 23 matches in the men’s category and seven in the women’s, the league promises more thrilling action. The top teams will advance to the semi-finals, with the women’s final scheduled for January 12 and the men’s championship concluding on January 13.
