Bhubaneswar: Hindalco Industries Ltd, the metal flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group, is poised to significantly contribute to the industrial development of Odisha with an investment exceeding Rs. 25,000 crore in various new and expansion projects within the state.
During a meeting on Wednesday with the Deputy Chief Minister KV Singhdeo at his Assembly office, Ardhendu Mohapatra, President of Hindalco, Odisha, outlined the company’s ambitious plans. Hindalco is set to establish a 2 MTPA alumina refinery, named Aditya Alumina Refinery, at Kanshariguda in Rayagada district with an investment of Rs. 8,000 crore. Additionally, a 1,000 MW floating solar power project is planned at Hirakud, entailing an investment of Rs. 6,000 crore. The company is also investing approximately Rs. 7,000 crore to expand its Aditya Aluminium Smelter plant in Lapanga, Sambalpur district. These projects are expected to significantly bolster the local economy and generate substantial employment opportunities.
Mohapatra informed the Deputy Chief Minister that Hindalco has already invested over Rs. 33,000 crore in various operational industrial units in Odisha, providing direct and indirect employment to over 21,000 people.
In response, Deputy Chief Minister KV Singhdeo assured the company of full government support and emphasized the importance of employing local people in both existing and upcoming projects.
