New Delhi: The Government of India announced today the expansion of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), a flagship housing scheme that has been in implementation since 2015-16. The scheme, which aims to provide affordable housing to eligible rural and urban households, will now include assistance for an additional 3 crore households, both rural and urban, to cater to the growing number of eligible families in need of housing.
Over the past decade, PMAY has successfully completed 4.21 crore houses, significantly improving the living standards of millions of families. In the latest Cabinet meeting, it was decided to extend this support to an additional 3 crore households to meet the housing requirements arising from the increase in the number of eligible families.
Under PMAY, the constructed houses come equipped with basic amenities including household toilets, LPG connections, electricity connections, and functional household tap connections. These amenities are provided through the convergence of various schemes from both the Central and State Governments, ensuring comprehensive support for the beneficiaries.
The expansion of PMAY is a response to the increasing demand for housing and the government’s ongoing effort to improve the living standards of its citizens. With this initiative, the government aims to address the evolving housing requirements and continue its mission of providing ‘Housing for All’ by enhancing the quality of life for millions across the country.
