New Delhi: Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV) signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Monash University, Australia, today, aiming to enhance collaboration in railway engineering, research, and executive training. The MoU was formalized at an event hosted by Dr. Monica Kennedy, Minister Commercial and Head of Austrade South Asia, at the Australian High Commission in New Delhi.
The agreement was signed by Professor Craig Jeffrey, Deputy Vice-Chancellor-International and Senior Vice-President of Monash University, and Professor Manoj Choudhary, Vice-Chancellor of GSV. The partnership will leverage the expertise of Monash University’s Institute of Railway Technology (IRT) and GSV to create joint research projects, executive training programs, and educational initiatives in advanced railway engineering.
Professor Craig Jeffrey expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “Monash University is thrilled to partner with GSV, India’s premier university in the transportation and logistics sectors. Monash IRT has a proven track record in developing new technologies to enhance railway systems, improving both productivity and safety while minimizing risks and costs. This partnership will strengthen our engagement with India and contribute to global railway advancements.”
Professor Manoj Choudhary emphasized the transformative potential of the collaboration: “GSV is an industry-driven, innovation-led university with a mission to impact national development through the transportation and logistics sectors. Railways are crucial to India’s transport infrastructure, and we are embarking on a journey of technological transformation in line with our Viksit Bharat goals. This partnership with Monash University will propel us further in achieving our mission.”
The MoU also outlines plans for establishing a joint research lab focused on advanced railway technologies and exploring opportunities for industrial collaboration that will benefit both nations’ railway systems. In addition, joint educational programs and executive training will be developed to advance skillsets and practical knowledge in the sector.
Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV), established in 2022 by an Act of Parliament, is India’s first university dedicated to the transportation and logistics sectors. Sponsored by the Ministry of Railways, GSV’s programs are aligned with national development goals, including the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan 2021 and the National Logistics Policy 2022. The university aims to produce world-class talent for the railways, aviation, shipping, highways, and waterways industries.
