New Delhi: In a significant development, Shri Sheel Vardhan Singh, a distinguished former IPS officer with 37 years of exemplary service, officially assumed the role of Member of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The oath-taking ceremony took place this afternoon in the Central Hall of the Main Building of UPSC, with UPSC Chairman Dr. Manoj Soni administering the oath.
Shri Sheel Vardhan Singh is widely recognized as a seasoned intelligence expert, celebrated for his strategic thinking, expertise in the global security scenario, and contributions to internal security. His illustrious career includes a stint as the Director General of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) from November 2021 to December 2023, during which he provided visionary leadership, significantly enhancing security measures across vital industrial sectors.
Having served in all domains of national security, Shri Sheel Vardhan Singh has made substantial contributions to intelligence gathering, analysis, and the formulation of national security policies at the highest levels. His tenure at the Indian High Commission in Dhaka saw him fortifying India’s international security posture.
The distinguished officer received the President Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 2004 and the Presidents Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 2010, recognizing his outstanding contributions to law enforcement.
Shri Sheel Vardhan Singh holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Honours and has completed the prestigious West Yorkshire Command Course in the UK and the National Defence College in India. Apart from his achievements in the field of security, he has authored two volumes of short stories and is a regular contributor to the ‘Speaking Tree’ column in The Times of India. His podcast, ‘The Dialogue Within,’ reflects his unique perspectives on life and living.
