Nagpur: The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt of India, in collaboration with the National Divyangjan Finance and Development Corporation (NDFDC), is hosting the Divya Kala Mela from January 12 to January 21, 2024, at Ground-3 Reshimbagh, Nagpur, Maharashtra. This unique event aims to spotlight the craftsmanship and products of Divyang entrepreneurs and artisans from various corners of India.
The inauguration of the Divya Kala Mela in Nagpur took place today, graced by the presence of notable dignitaries, including Shri Omprakash urf Bachchu Kadu, MLA & Chairman Divyang Kalyan State Level Committee, Maharashtra, and Shri Naveen Shah, IFS, CMD, NDFDC, among others.
The Mela promises to offer a captivating experience for visitors, featuring vibrant products from diverse regions, including Jammu and Kashmir and the North Eastern states. Approximately 100 Divyang artisans and entrepreneurs from 20 states and Union Territories will showcase their skills, presenting products falling under various categories such as Home Décor, Clothing, Stationery, Eco-friendly products, Packaged Food, Organic Products, Toys, Gifts, Personal Accessories, Jewellery, Clutch Bags, Paintings, and more.
The event encourages the ‘vocal for local’ initiative, providing a platform for patrons to appreciate and purchase products crafted by determined Divyang craftsmen. Open from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM for ten consecutive days, the Divya Kala Mela in Nagpur will also feature cultural activities and performances by Divyangjan artists and renowned professionals. Visitors can relish diverse regional cuisines from across the country.
This initiative by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities is a significant step towards the economic empowerment of PwD/Divyangjan. The Divya Kala Mela serves as an extensive platform for marketing and showcasing the unique products and skills of Divyangjan. This event in Nagpur marks the 13th in the series, following successful editions in various cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bhopal, Guwahati, Indore, Jaipur, Varanasi, Secunderabad (Hyderabad), Bengaluru, Chennai, Patna, and Surat.
As part of the broader vision to promote the empowerment of Divyang individuals, the Department plans to continue organizing ‘Divya Kala Mela’ events across the country.
