Ekta Kapoor Meets Odisha CM Majhi After The Sabarmati Report Declared Tax-Free in the State

Bhubaneswar: Renowned Bollywood producer and director Ekta Kapoor met Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday at his chamber in the Odisha Legislative Assembly to express gratitude for making her film, The Sabarmati Report, tax-free in the state.

Kapoor thanked the Chief Minister for the gesture, which she said would help bring the truth of a significant chapter in India’s history to a broader audience. The movie, based on the tragic 2002 Godhra train burning incident, has stirred conversations nationwide.

Announcing the decision on November 28, CM Majhi stated, “The people’s government has decided to make the film The Sabarmati Report, based on a true incident, tax-free in Odisha. The movie showcases how Kar Sevaks were burned alive in the Godhra train fire incident to fulfill the vested interests of some selfish individuals and create instability. This film will bring a dreadful and heartbreaking incident of the past to light, increasing awareness among the public.”

Kapoor expressed her gratitude on social media, writing, “Heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi Ji and Government of Odisha for making #TheSabarmatiReport tax-free in the state. This support will help bring the truth of a significant chapter in our history to more people.”

Directed by Dheeraj Sarna, The Sabarmati Report stars Vikrant Massey, Raashii Khanna, and Ridhi Dogra. The film portrays the events of February 27, 2002, when the S6 coach of the Sabarmati Express was set ablaze near Godhra railway station, leading to the deaths of 59 passengers.
