Bhubaneswar: A delegation from the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Goa, is on a comprehensive study tour in Odisha to witness the sports ecosystem developed by the Sports and Youth Services Department of the state. The focus of the visit was to understand the High-Performance Model implemented at the renowned Kalinga Stadium.
Led by Swetika Sachan, IAS, Secretary (Sports & Industries), Government of Goa, the delegation comprised Dr. Geeta S Nagvenkar, GCS, Executive Director of the Sports Authority of Goa, Santosh Bhimgovda, Assistant Engineer, Public Works Department, Goa, and other officials.
The delegation explored key sports facilities within the Kalinga Stadium, including the Indoor Athletics Centre, Sports Science Centre, Aquatics Centre, Tennis Centre, Gymnastics Centre, Hockey High-Performance Centre, and the AIFF FIFA Talent Academy.
The primary objectives of the visit included gaining insights into establishing High-Performance Centers, understanding corporate partnership procedures, exploring sports infrastructure development, and grasping the intricacies of hosting international sporting events.
Deepankar Mohapatra, CEO, Hockey Promotion Council of Odisha, expressed his delight in hosting the representatives of the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Goa. He commended Goa for successfully hosting the National Games last year and highlighted the significance of their commitment to advancing sports initiatives. The collaboration between Odisha and Goa, he mentioned, represents a crucial step in advancing India’s position as a sporting nation.
During their visit, the delegation engaged with coaches and senior officials from Odisha’s sports department, gaining in-depth insights into the state’s sports landscape. The representatives from Goa commended the Kalinga Stadium for its world-class infrastructure and applauded Odisha’s efforts in sports development and promotion.
