CRUT in Odisha to add 200 E-buses in its fleet

Bhubaneswar: In a significant move towards sustainable and eco-friendly public transportation, Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) has secured cabinet approval to initiate the procurement process for 200 Midi AC Electric Buses. This strategic expansion aims to meet the growing demand for CRUT’s Mo Bus services in the Capital Region.

Recognizing the need for sustainable and environmentally friendly transportation solutions, CRUT is going to include 200 Midi AC Electric Buses into its fleet. Electric buses offer a range of benefits, including reduced air pollution, lower greenhouse gas emissions, noise reduction, cost savings, and energy independence. The move aligns with CRUT’s commitment to providing a modern and green public transportation system for the well-being of the city and its residents, ensuring a cleaner and greener future.

CRUT introduced Mo Bus operations in the capital region in November 2018, commencing with 200 Diesel Buses. Over time, the fleet expanded with the addition of 55 Midi Buses, 50 E Buses, and the extension of services to Rourkela with 100 Midi Buses. The Mo E-Ride (e-rickshaw) service, initiated in 2022, has been contributing to first and last-mile connectivity in Bhubaneswar, providing a holistic urban transportation experience.

The cabinet’s approval paves the way for the procurement, operation, and maintenance of the electric buses under the Gross Cost Contract (GCC) model for ten years. JBM Ecolife Mobility Private Limited has been selected as the bus operator for this initiative. The contract entails a total project cost of Rs. 933,26,40,000/- for ten years, with a per-kilometer rate of Rs. 64.81. The project agreement execution is part of the comprehensive plan to integrate sustainable practices in urban mobility and enhance the overall public transportation experience in the Capital Region.
