Port Blair: A crucial five-day Capacity Building Programme for Key Resource Persons (KRPs) focusing on Foundational Literacy and Numeracy commenced today at GSS Junglighat in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The program is conducted by the Regional Institute of Education (RIE), NCERT, Bhubaneswar, and the State Institute of Education (SIE) Port Blair.
Mr. R.K. Singh, Principal of SIE Port Blair, inaugurated the program and expressed appreciation for the significant role of RIE, Bhubaneswar, in organizing such essential initiatives for the Union Territory (UT). He encouraged the KRPs to implement Foundational Literacy and Numeracy in their schools and localities, emphasizing adherence to national norms and local contexts.
Prof. Laxmidhar Behera, Head of the Department of Education, RIE, NCERT, Bhubaneswar, and the Program Coordinator, outlined the objectives of the program. He highlighted key initiatives of the Government of India and NCERT aligned with the National Education Policy 2020, such as Vidya Pravesh, NIPUN Bharat, Jadui Pitra, and NISHTHA-FLN, aiming at ensuring quality learning outcomes during the foundational years.
Dr. R. Manoharan from SIE, Port Blair, delivered the welcome address during the inauguration. The program witnessed the presence of Mrs. Geetha Navin Bhatt, Dr. Bency Joy, Mr. Jai Subramanyam, Mr. Alok Kumar Paul, and Mr. B. Neelaish. Forty KRPs, including Primary School Teachers from the UT, participated in the program.
Over the five days, the program will cover various themes, including NIPUN Bharat, National Curriculum Framework for Foundational Stage 2022, Jaduipitara, Holistic Report Card, Engaging Families, Early Identification and Interventions, and the role of Parents and Communities in the implementation of FLN activities. The resource persons include experts from the National Institute of Education (NIE), NCERT, RIEs of NCERT, SIE Port Blair, and other reputed organizations. The program aims to equip KRPs with essential knowledge and skills for effective implementation of Foundational Literacy and Numeracy practices.
