New Delhi: In a landmark move, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has officially released the ‘Standardized Development and Building Regulations, 2023,’ encapsulated in the Special Publication SP 73: 2023. This release marks a significant leap forward in reshaping India’s built environment.
Harmonizing with the National Building Code of India 2016 (NBC 2016) and drawing insights from global best practices, these regulations present a comprehensive framework focused on enhancing safety, accessibility, and sustainability in construction projects. Serving as a guide, the document aims to bring about consistency in structuring and detailing development and building regulations across States/UTs. Simultaneously, it seeks to streamline the building regulatory system nationwide, accommodating the unique needs of individual states, union territories (UTs), and local bodies.
The genesis of these Standardized Regulations can be traced back to an intricate project designed to promote the adoption of NBC 2016 throughout the country.
