New Delhi: The Budget Session of Parliament is set to commence on Thursday with President Droupadi Murmu addressing the joint sitting of both Houses, marking the beginning of a crucial legislative period. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is scheduled to present the Interim Budget on Thursday, with the session slated to continue until the 9th of the following month.
In preparation for the upcoming session, the government convened an all-party meeting today to foster collaboration and ensure the smooth functioning of both Houses. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi, speaking to the media after the meeting in New Delhi, expressed the government’s readiness for comprehensive discussions on all issues as directed by the chair. Joshi urged opposition parties to cooperate, emphasizing the importance of conducting business in both Houses without resorting to disruptive actions such as displaying placards.
Addressing a significant concern, Joshi announced that the government had formally requested the presiding officers of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha to reconsider the suspension of MPs who had been barred during the winter session of Parliament.
Congress leader Pramod Tiwari, speaking to the media after the meeting, highlighted issues related to the alleged attack on the federal structure. Tiwari asserted that Congress and several opposition parties would bring to the forefront critical issues such as unemployment, inflation, and the escalating national debt during the upcoming session.
The all-party meeting saw the participation of key political figures, including Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Piyush Goyal, and Arjun Ram Meghwal, as well as opposition leaders such as Pramod Tiwari, K Suresh, Sudip Bandyopadhyay, Sukhendu Sekhar Ray, Ram Nath Thakur, T R Baalu, P R Natarajan, and Rahul Shewale.
With diverse topics on the agenda and a call for constructive dialogue, the Budget Session is expected to be a pivotal period for legislative discussions and policy decisions. The government’s willingness to address concerns raised by the opposition sets the stage for a session that aims for collaborative governance.
