Bhubaneswar Officials Rush to Malkangiri Amid Flood Crisis

Bhubaneswar: In response to severe flooding caused by relentless rains, Director General of Fire Services & Home Guards Sudhanshu Sarangi and Principal Secretary of Social Security & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) Bishnupada Sethi have been dispatched to Malkangiri to assist the district administration and assess the situation.

The deployment follows instructions from Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who, during his return from a two-day visit to Sambalpur, conferred with Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari regarding the extensive damage inflicted by the heavy rains in Koraput and Malkangiri districts. The Chief Minister also discussed precautionary measures in light of a low-pressure system forming in the Bay of Bengal, which is expected to impact coastal areas.

The ongoing heavy rains have severely disrupted traffic in Koraput and Malkangiri, leading to significant challenges for local residents. In response, Chief Minister Majhi has directed the Revenue Minister to instruct District Collectors and the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) to implement immediate measures to address the flood-related issues.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister has advised District Magistrates to remain on high alert and prepare for potential heavy rainfall in coastal regions over the next 48 hours. The situation remains under close monitoring as authorities work to manage the crisis and provide relief to affected communities.
