Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police has unveiled a special motorcycle patrolling team, named ‘Shakti Bahini’, aimed at enhancing the safety of women and children during the Dussehra festival in Odisha’s capital. The initiative was inaugurated by Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh, with Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Pinak Mishra and other senior officials present at the launch.
“This special initiative focuses on the safety of women and children during the Dussehra festival,” the Commissionerate Police stated. The team consists of 40 women police officers operating 20 motorcycles, reinforcing the existing security measures in Bhubaneswar.
“This proactive measure aims at preventing crimes against women and ensuring a safe and secure environment for all,” the police added. The ‘Shakti Bahini’ team will actively monitor areas where incidents of snatching and thefts may occur, particularly during the festival when crowds gather at various events and celebrations.
Additionally, the team will address cases involving women found intoxicated in public spaces, ensuring their safety and that of others.
“The special patrolling teams will be deployed near Durga Puja pandals and in crowded areas throughout the capital. We request the public to cooperate with the police to facilitate a smooth and enjoyable Dussehra festival,” the Commissionerate Police emphasized.
