Bhubaneswar: In a significant boost to skill development and employment opportunities, the World Skill Center (WSC) in Bhubaneswar has unveiled a new program in ‘Precision Engineering’ as part of its School of Engineering. This initiative, starting from the Academic Year 2024-25, aims to equip youth with cutting-edge skills to meet the demands of modern manufacturing and services sectors.
Established under the state government’s ‘Skilled In Odisha’ programme, the World Skill Center is poised to offer advanced training in precision engineering, a field known for its critical role in various high-tech industries. The new one-year program is open to individuals who have completed either a 2-year ITI or a 3-year diploma from any Polytechnic in Odisha.
“Precision engineering is at the forefront of technological advancements, offering numerous employment opportunities both nationally and internationally,” said Rashmita Panda, CEO of the Odisha Skill Development Authority and the World Skill Center. “Our new course is designed to address the evolving needs of the industry, with state-of-the-art labs and hands-on training tailored for the youth of Odisha.”
The ‘Precision Engineering’ program is one of six new subjects introduced under the School of Engineering at WSC. The curriculum will cover a range of specialized areas, including engineering drawing and inspection techniques, CNC turning, CNC milling, 3D CAD/CAM applications, multi-axis programming and machining, CNC sheet metal fabrication, and grinding. This comprehensive approach aims to prepare students for diverse roles in industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, aerospace, automotive, and electronics.
In addition to technical training, the World Skill Center emphasizes practical, hands-on experience. The facility boasts state-of-the-art laboratories and provides additional ‘Life Skills’ training, including communication skills, professional development, design thinking, entrepreneurship, and wellness.
The World Skill Center, located in the Mancheswar Industrial Estate, Bhubaneswar, operates under the Odisha Skill Development Authority and the Department of Skill Development and Technical Education. The institution also collaborates with the Institute of Technical Education, Singapore (ITEES), offering year-long Advanced Diploma Training Courses, student exchange, and internship programs to provide international exposure.
