New Delhi: In a momentous announcement, Jay Shah, the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), declared a staggering prize money of ₹125 crore for Team India following their victorious campaign in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The announcement came shortly after India clinched a thrilling seven-run victory over South Africa in the tournament final held in Barbados on Saturday.
Taking to social media, Shah expressed his delight in honoring the team’s remarkable achievement. “I am pleased to announce prize money of INR 125 Crores for Team India for winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The team has showcased exceptional talent, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. Congratulations to all the players, coaches, and support staff for this outstanding achievement,” Shah wrote.
The T20 World Cup triumph, led under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, ends India’s 11-year wait for an ICC title since their Champions Trophy victory in England back in 2013. It also marks their first T20 World Cup title since the inaugural edition held in South Africa in 2007.
According to the International Cricket Council (ICC), the winner of the tournament, Team India, is set to receive $2.45 million (₹20.42 crores) in prize money, while runners-up South Africa will receive $1.28 million (₹10.67 crores).
