New Delhi: Under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM), a celebration marking India’s 75th year of independence, around 2,00,000 events and programs have been organized across the country in the last two years. The entire nation has actively participated in various activities, honoring freedom fighters and showcasing the rich cultural heritage of India.
Some notable events and programs organized under AKAM include:
- Pazhassi Veerahuthi Raja Day: The Ministry of Culture organized the 217th Pazhassi Veerahuthi Raja Day on November 30th, 2022, commemorating the contributions of Pazhassi Raja.
- Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign: Launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, this campaign encouraged people to bring the National Flag home. Over 20 crore households hoisted the flag from 13th to 15th August 2022.
- Rani Durgavati Commemoration: ‘Veerangana Rani Durgavati Smarak aur Udyaan’ in Jabalpur was initiated by the Prime Minister in line with the 500th birth centenary celebrations of Rani Durgavati.
- SWASTI Zonal Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav: Held from 29th September – 2nd October 2023 at Central Park, Connaught Place, with the presence of Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah.
- Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s Birth Anniversary: PM unveiled a 28-ft statue near India Gate on September 8, 2022, and declared 23rd January as Parakram Divas.
- Sri Aurobindo’s 150th Birth Anniversary: Hon’ble Prime Minister released a commemorative stamp and coin.
- Shruti Amrut – Cultural Pride Campaign: A musical fiesta dedicated to honoring unsung heroes, featuring performances by renowned singers across the nation.
- Exhibition on Women Freedom Fighters: Organized in Rampur Raza Library, Rampur, to increase awareness about the contributions of women freedom fighters.
- Azadi ki Railgaadi aur station, Krantiteerth: Initiatives to commemorate unsung heroes, organizations, and places related to the freedom movement.
- Digital Jyot Campaign: Sky beam light installation in Central Park, Delhi, where people paid tributes to Bravehearts digitally. Approximately 97 lakh people paid their tributes.
- Meri Maati Mera Desh Program: Connecting Indians with their land, history, and heritage, fostering national pride and conservation of cultural heritage.
- Qila aur Kahaniya, Wonder Caves: Highlighting the contribution of India’s forts and caves to the freedom struggle.
- Karpoori Thakur’s 100th Birth Anniversary: Celebrating the life and sacrifices of Karpoori Thakur ji.
- Digital District Repository: Compiling stories of people, events, and places linked to the freedom struggle at the micro level of the district.
AKAM has been a remarkable journey, bringing the nation together to celebrate its rich history and cultural diversity.
All Ministries/Departments, State Governments, UTs and their Attached/Subordinate/Autonomous Bodies, PSUs etc. incur the expenditure on the events organised by them from their respective budget heads and there is no separate budget for AKAM.
