Guwahati: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, unveiled the book ‘Assam’s Braveheart Lachit Barphukan’ in a ceremonial event in Guwahati today. The release ceremony witnessed the presence of various dignitaries, including Assam Chief Minister Shri Himant Biswa Sarma.
Addressing the audience, Shri Amit Shah lauded the heroic tale of Lachit Barphukan, stating that his courageous stand against oppression and power-hungry forces in the Northeast resonates as a source of pride for every Indian. Drawing parallels, Shah likened Lachit Borphukan to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj of Eastern India, emphasizing the significance of the Battle of Saraighat in India’s freedom struggle.
Reflecting on the historical context, Shri Shah asserted that if Lachit had not emerged victorious in the Battle of Saraighat, Assam would have been integrated into Bangladesh today. He hailed Lachit Borphukan not just as a hero of Assam but as a courageous son of the entire nation.
The Union Home Minister underscored the importance of revisiting history from an indigenous perspective, highlighting Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s initiative, Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. He outlined the threefold objectives of the campaign, including creating awareness about freedom fighters’ sacrifices, glorifying the nation’s achievements, and committing to building a world-leading India by 2047.
Shri Amit Shah urged the youth to derive inspiration from Lachit Borphukan’s life, emphasizing the value of self-respect and unity. He commended Borphukan’s leadership qualities, noting his inclusive approach in forming an army comprising members from various community groups.
Addressing contemporary challenges, Shri Shah encouraged the youth of Assam to rise above artificial controversies, stressing the importance of collective efforts for the state’s development. He acknowledged the strides made under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, bringing an end to disputes through nine agreements and integrating extremist groups into the mainstream.
The Home Minister concluded by calling on the youth to support the development initiatives in Assam and the entire Northeast. He highlighted the region’s history of independence and resilience, serving as an inspiration not only for Assam but for the entire nation.
Shri Amit Shah acknowledged the Assam government’s efforts to translate the book into all scheduled languages, emphasizing the strength that diverse languages bring to the country. He commended Prime Minister Modi for promoting the stories of countless heroes, contributing to national pride and consciousness, with the vision of achieving a self-reliant and fully developed India by 2047.
