Aman Sehrawat Advances to Semifinals with Dominant Display at Paris Olympics 2024
Paris: Indian wrestler Aman Sehrawat delivered a commanding performance, securing his place in the semifinals of the men’s 57kg freestyle wrestling at the Paris Olympics 2024. Sehrawat will face Japanese wrestler Higuchi Rei in the semifinal later today. The 21-year-old displayed his technical prowess, defeating Zelimkhan Abakarov of Albania with a decisive 11-0 victory, marking his second win of the day using his superior technique.
Sehrawat, who has been in outstanding form, showcased his dominance early in the bout. After earning a passivity point due to Abakarov’s lack of aggression, Aman extended his lead by executing a left-leg hold, bringing the score to 3-0 at the end of the first round. The Indian wrestler’s agility and strategic mastery were evident as he controlled the match, leaving the 31-year-old Abakarov, a world champion in 2022, struggling to respond.
In the second round, Sehrawat intensified his attack, quickly securing a leg lock that allowed him to turn Abakarov over multiple times, accumulating eight consecutive points and closing the match with an 11-0 technical superiority victory. This win not only highlights Sehrawat’s impeccable form but also cements his position as a strong contender for the gold medal.
Earlier in the day, Sehrawat showcased similar dominance in the quarterfinals against Vladimir Egorov of Macedonia. The Indian wrestler secured a 10-0 victory, once again demonstrating his technical superiority. Despite Egorov’s attempts to mount a defense, Sehrawat’s relentless attacks and solid defense left the Macedonian wrestler unable to stage a comeback.
Aman Sehrawat, the Asian Championship gold medalist and the only male wrestler from India to qualify for the Paris Olympics, has emerged as a formidable force in the competition. His back-to-back victories have not only propelled him into the semifinals but also brought hope for India’s wrestling aspirations at the Olympics.
As the competition intensifies, all eyes will be on Sehrawat as he continues his quest for Olympic glory in the upcoming semifinals.
