Airbus Expands “Make-in-India” Initiative with Dynamatic Technologies Collaboration

New Delhi: In a significant boost to India’s aerospace manufacturing capabilities, Union Minister of Civil Aviation & Steel, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, unveiled Airbus’s major expansion in its “Make-in-India” initiative. Airbus has partnered with Dynamatic Technologies to manufacture all doors for the single-aisle A220 family aircraft in India.

Speaking at the event, Scindia emphasized India’s growing stature in aerospace manufacturing and applauded the largest-ever order for aircraft doors placed with Dynamatic Technologies, already a collaborator with Airbus. The move aligns with Hon’ble Prime Minister’s commitment to “Make in India.”

Highlighting Airbus’s role in the Make in India mission, Scindia acknowledged the company’s export of Indian-made products worth $750 million and its commitment to double the figure in the coming year. Airbus has made substantial investments in technology transfer and human resource development in India, contributing to Indo-French ties.

Addressing the government’s focus on the aviation industry, Scindia emphasized the issuance of 1100 commercial pilot licenses and the commitment to developing human resources within India.

The A220 aircraft, with its range of up to 3,600 nautical miles and seating capacity of 100 to 160 passengers, aligns perfectly with India’s UDAN scheme, aimed at enhancing regional connectivity and promoting economic growth.

The Dynamatic Technologies manufacturing facility for A220 family aircraft doors presents a unique opportunity for the Indian private sector to enter the technology-intensive aviation industry, fostering domestic manufacturing capabilities and reducing import dependence.

This collaboration marks the second contract for doors awarded by Airbus to an Indian supplier, reflecting the pro-business policies that are making India a prominent aerospace manufacturing country. Airbus, in partnership with local manufacturers, currently supports nearly 10,000 jobs in India, with plans to increase it to about 15,000 by 2025. Airbus aims to double its procurement from India from USD 750 million to USD 1.5 billion in the near future.

Earlier collaborations with Aequs, Dynamatic, Gardner, and Mahindra Aerospace, along with the recent contract for manufacturing bulk and cargo doors of the A320 Family awarded to Tata Advanced Systems Ltd., highlight Airbus’s commitment to India’s AatmaNirbhar Bharat vision. This landmark decision marks one of the largest export contracts for an Indian aerospace manufacturing company to date.
