AI-powered robotic platform ‘DSC ARJUN’ unveiled to strengthen railway security on East Coast Railway

Bhubaneswar: East Coast Railway (ECoR) has introduced an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered robotic surveillance platform, DSC ARJUN, to strengthen security across railway stations by enhancing passenger safety, surveillance and emergency response through advanced technology.

The AI-enabled robotic security platform was unveiled in the presence of East Coast Railway General Manager, senior railway officials and Railway Protection Force (RPF) officers. Officials said the initiative marks a significant step towards building a smart, technology-driven security ecosystem across the railway network.

Developed as a force multiplier for the Railway Protection Force, DSC ARJUN integrates Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision, Machine Learning and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to support round-the-clock surveillance and intelligent monitoring. The robot is equipped with AI-based facial recognition, real-time crowd analytics, passenger headcount, unattended baggage detection, suspicious activity detection, public announcement systems, live video streaming and instant alert generation.

According to railway officials, the platform will assist RPF personnel in improving situational awareness, enabling quicker decision-making and strengthening preventive as well as evidence-based policing. It can be deployed at platforms, station concourses, booking offices, waiting halls, parking areas, parcel offices and other vulnerable locations requiring enhanced security monitoring.

The robotic platform will also help manage passenger movement during peak travel periods, protect railway assets and support emergency response during incidents such as fire, medical emergencies and security-related situations.

The launch of DSC ARJUN builds upon Indian Railways’ earlier experiments with robotic policing. The first robotic initiative, Captain ARJUN, was developed by Central Railway in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic to assist frontline personnel. East Coast Railway subsequently introduced the humanoid robot ASC ARJUN at Visakhapatnam Railway Station in January 2026. DSC ARJUN represents the next phase of this technological evolution by combining AI-enabled surveillance with advanced security analytics.

Speaking on the occasion, railway officials said technology is redefining railway security and that DSC ARJUN will significantly enhance the capabilities of Railway Protection Force personnel by enabling proactive security management and improving passenger confidence.

East Coast Railway said the initiative reflects its commitment to creating a safer, smarter and more passenger-centric railway system by combining advanced technology with the expertise of RPF personnel to safeguard millions of passengers and critical railway infrastructure.
