AFMS and IIT Delhi Forge Collaboration for Medical Research and Training

New Delhi: The Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi joined hands in a pioneering initiative with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on April 22, 2024. The MoU, inked by Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services, Lt Gen Daljit Singh, and Director of IIT Delhi, Prof Rangan Banerjee, aims to facilitate collaborative research and training endeavors.

The scope of this landmark agreement encompasses a wide array of initiatives aimed at addressing the unique medical challenges faced by serving soldiers across diverse terrains. One of the primary objectives is to foster research and innovation for the development of novel medical devices tailored to the specific needs of armed forces personnel. Additionally, the collaboration will focus on finding solutions to health issues pertinent to soldiers, including the rehabilitation of amputees.

IIT Delhi, renowned for its robust biomedical research ecosystem, is poised to provide the technical expertise necessary for tackling the multifaceted medical challenges encountered by the Armed Forces. The institute’s wealth of resources and knowledge will play a pivotal role in driving forward research initiatives aimed at enhancing the healthcare provisions for military personnel.

As part of the MoU, both institutions have outlined plans for a range of collaborative activities, including faculty exchange programs, joint academic endeavors, and the development of joint PhD programs. These initiatives are expected to facilitate cross-disciplinary learning and innovation, fostering a vibrant ecosystem of research and development in the field of military medicine.
