
New Delhi: The Afghanistan returnee to India will be administered with Polio Vaccine. The Indian government has taken the step as a preventive measure as Afghanistan and Pakistan are two polio endemic countries in the world.
“We have decided to vaccinate Afghanistan returnees with free Polio Vaccine – OPV & fIPV, as a preventive measure against Wild Polio Virus. Congratulations to the Health Team for their efforts to ensure public health.” Union Health minister Mansukh Mandaviya tweeted on Sunday about the drive with a picture started at Indira Gandhi International airport, Delhi.
Since the Taliban took over Afghanistan, citizens from various countries are moving back and the Indian government has been evacuating Indian citizens. An Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft on Sunday brought back 168 people from Kabul which mostly included Indians and around 20 Afghan Sikhs and Hindus.
