Adrien Brody Wins Second Best Actor Oscar for ‘The Brutalist’

Los Angeles: Hollywood star Adrien Brody has won his second Academy Award for Best Actor, taking home the prestigious honor for his role in Brady Corbet’s “The Brutalist.”

Brody, who first won an Oscar in 2003 for “The Pianist”, was nominated alongside Timothée Chalamet (“A Complete Unknown”), Colman Domingo (“Sing Sing”), Ralph Fiennes (“Conclave”), and Sebastian Stan (“The Apprentice”). His win cements his legacy as one of the few actors to have won the Best Actor Oscar more than once.

As Brody walked on stage to accept his award, he made a lighthearted moment by spitting out his chewing gum into his hand and tossing it to his partner, Georgina Chapman, before delivering his speech.

Towards the end of his speech, as the Academy began playing him off with music, Brody firmly responded: “I’m wrapping up, please turn the music off. I’ve done this before. Thank you. It’s not my first rodeo, but I will be brief.”

With this win, Brody joins a select group of actors who have won the Best Actor Oscar twice, including Spencer Tracy, Jack Nicholson, Marlon Brando, Dustin Hoffman, Gary Cooper, Tom Hanks, Fredric March, Sean Penn, and Anthony Hopkins. The only actor to have won three times in this category is Daniel Day-Lewis.

Notably, had Timothée Chalamet won, he would have broken Brody’s record as the youngest-ever Best Actor winner by eight months.

In “The Brutalist,” Brody delivers a powerful performance as László Tóth, a fictional architect and Holocaust survivor who flees Hungary to start a new life in the United States. His character’s journey takes a dramatic turn when he is enlisted to work on a major project for a wealthy businessman in Pennsylvania while awaiting the arrival of his wife and niece.

The film, directed by Brady Corbet, received 10 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Supporting Actor/Actress nominations for Guy Pearce and Felicity Jones. It is also competing in categories like Best Cinematography, Editing, Production Design, Original Screenplay, and Original Score.
