Adani Group Proposes ₹1.5 Lakh Crore Investment to Strengthen Odisha’s Clean Energy Ecosystem

Bhubaneswar: The Adani Group on Friday proposed an investment of ₹1.5 lakh crore in Odisha’s clean energy sector, outlining plans to establish large-scale nuclear, thermal and pumped storage power projects aimed at strengthening the state’s energy infrastructure and supporting India’s net-zero ambitions.

The proposal was presented to Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo during a meeting at Kharavel Bhawan, where representatives of the Adani Group made a detailed presentation on the company’s long-term investment plans for Odisha.

According to the proposal, the investment includes the establishment of two 3,000 MW nuclear power plants, 2,400 MW ultra-supercritical (USC) thermal power plants, and multiple Pumped Storage Projects (PSPs) to provide reliable, low-emission baseload power.

The group also highlighted the ongoing development of a 1.80 GW Pumped Storage Project in Nayagarh district, which forms part of its broader strategy to expand renewable energy integration and grid stability in the state.

Officials said the proposed investments are aligned with India’s Net Zero 2070 target and are expected to leverage enabling provisions under the SHANTI Act, 2025. The projects are projected to generate more than 22,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities while significantly enhancing Odisha’s power generation capacity.

The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary of the Energy Department Vishal Kumar Dev, OPTCL Chairman-cum-Managing Director Bhaskar Jyoti Sarma, GRIDCO Managing Director Dr. Satyapriya Rath, representatives of Adani Power Limited, and senior officials from the Energy Department, Odisha Power Generation Corporation (OPGC), Odisha Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC) and GRIDCO.
