Adani Group Explores 6,000-MW Power Projects, Clean Energy Investments in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s efforts to expand its clean energy capacity received a boost with the Adani Group reiterating its interest in setting up large-scale power projects in the State, including two proposed plants of 3,000 MW each.

Adani Group’s Karan Adani and senior members of the group met Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo at Kharavel Bhavan on Thursday to discuss investment opportunities and the future of Odisha’s energy sector.

The meeting focused on expanding the State’s clean energy infrastructure through Pumped Storage Plants (PSPs), solar power generation and nuclear power projects. Discussions also covered the need to strengthen long-term energy security and ensure greater grid reliability as Odisha’s electricity demand continues to rise.

The Adani Group reiterated its intention to invest in Odisha’s clean energy sector and discussed plans for establishing two power plants, each with a proposed capacity of 3,000 MW. The proposed projects are expected to contribute to meeting the State’s future power requirements and support its broader clean energy transition.

A key area of discussion was the requirement for round-the-clock, carbon-free baseload power as the State expands renewable energy generation. Pumped storage projects were also discussed for their potential role in balancing renewable power and improving the stability and flexibility of the electricity grid.

The discussions assume significance as Odisha is looking to strengthen its power infrastructure to cater to rising demand from industrialisation and other economic activities. The State is also seeking to increase its clean energy capacity while ensuring reliable electricity supply for consumers and industries.

The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary, Energy, Vishal Kumar Dev; OPTCL Chairman-cum-Managing Director Bhaskar Jyoti Sarma; GRIDCO Managing Director Dr Satyapriya Rath, and senior officials of the Energy Department.

The interaction followed an earlier meeting between the Adani Group and the Deputy Chief Minister, during which the group had expressed interest in investing in Odisha’s energy sector. The latest meeting further underlined the group’s interest in participating in the State’s emerging clean energy landscape.

As part of the engagement, the Adani Group invited the Deputy Chief Minister to visit its renewable energy projects in other states. The proposed visit is expected to provide an opportunity to understand the group’s renewable energy initiatives and explore possibilities for similar investments in Odisha.

The State government and the Adani Group are expected to continue discussions on the proposed projects and other clean energy opportunities as Odisha works towards strengthening its long-term energy security and building a more sustainable power sector.
