Actor Pankaj Tripathi Steps Down as ECI National Icon Owing to his Role in Biographical Film

New Delhi: In a gracious move, renowned actor Pankaj Tripathi has voluntarily stepped down from his position as the Election Commission of India (ECI) National Icon. This decision comes in light of his upcoming role as a political leader in the film “Main Atal Hoon.” The actor, known for his impactful performances, has adhered to the terms of the contract and expressed his commitment to the upcoming project.

The Election Commission of India, acknowledging Pankaj Tripathi’s significant contribution to voter awareness and the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) campaign since October 2022, expressed gratitude for his dedicated efforts.

 

Pankaj Tripathi had been named the “National Icon” by the Election Commission at an event held on October 4, 2022. This prestigious title was bestowed upon him for his active involvement with the ECI in creating awareness among voters.

The announcement of Pankaj Tripathi stepping down was made amidst his busy schedule, actively engaged in promoting his upcoming project, “Main Atal Hoon.” The Hindi-language biographical film, directed by Ravi Jadhav and written by Rishi Virmanu, features Pankaj Tripathi in the role of Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

At the event organized on October 4, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar made the initial announcement, highlighting Pankaj Tripathi’s commitment to the cause of voter awareness.

Pankaj Tripathi’s decision to step down as the ECI National Icon reflects his dedication to his craft and the seamless transition between his responsibilities as an actor and his role in societal awareness. The Election Commission extends its appreciation for his invaluable contribution and wishes him success in his upcoming cinematic endeavor.
