5th Edition of VINBAX 2024 Joint Army Exercise Begins at Ambala

Ambala: The 5th edition of the Vietnam-India Bilateral Army Exercise, VINBAX 2024, commenced today at Ambala, marking a significant step forward in military collaboration between the two nations. Scheduled to run from November 4 to 23, the exercise will be conducted at Ambala and Chandimandir, following up on the last bilateral exercise held in Vietnam in 2023. This event stands as a key milestone in strengthening the defense ties between India and Vietnam.

A noteworthy highlight of VINBAX 2024 is its expanded scope, featuring bi-service level participation from both the Indian and Vietnamese armed forces for the first time. The Indian contingent, comprising 47 personnel, is led by a regiment from the Corps of Engineers, with additional representation from other arms and services. The Vietnamese contingent mirrors this strength with troops from the Vietnam People’s Army.

The primary objective of VINBAX 2024 is to bolster joint military capabilities, particularly in the deployment and employment of Engineer Companies and Medical Teams for United Nations Peacekeeping Operations under Chapter VII of the UN Charter. This exercise will serve as a platform for enhancing interoperability, building mutual confidence, and sharing best practices between the two militaries.

VINBAX 2024 includes a field training segment, significantly expanding the scope from previous editions. The exercise schedule features a 48-hour Validation Exercise that will include a Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) demonstration, along with an equipment display. This segment is designed to assess the standards of both contingents in executing technical military operations under conditions similar to those encountered in UN missions.

In addition to tactical training, VINBAX 2024 will also offer participants the chance to learn about each other’s social and cultural heritage, fostering camaraderie and mutual respect between the Indian Army and the Vietnam People’s Army.
