The 13th century Ramappa temple in Palampet, Telangana was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site on Sunday.

The decision was taken after a consensus during an online meeting of the World Heritage Committee (WHC) in Fuzhou, China. While Norway opposed the inscription, Russia supported the temple to be included as a World Heritage Site. A consensus with 17 countries supported the inscription.

The World Heritage Committee includes Australia, Bahrain, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Hungary, Kyrgyzstan, Mali, Nigeria, Norway, Oman, Russian Federation, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Spain, Thailand, and Uganda.

Known for its exquisite craftsmanship and delicate work, the temple is an amalgamation of technical knowledge and materials, where the foundation of the temple is built with the sandbox technology, granite is used on floor and pillars were made with basalt. Red sandstones were used for the lower part of the temple, whereas the gopuram of the temple is made of light bricks.
