India Launches Bharat 5G Portal and Invites 6G Research Proposals

New Delhi: Dr. Neeraj Mittal, Chairman of Digital Communications Commission and Secretary of the Department of Telecommunications, launched the “Bharat 5G Portal” at the ‘Bharat Telecom 2024 – An Exclusive International Business Expo.’ The portal aims to serve the interests of startups, industry, and academia in quantum, 6G, IPR, and 5G domains.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) announced a call for 6G Research & Development proposals through the Bharat 5G Portal, inviting accelerated research on 6G ecosystem development. In collaboration with PANIIT USA, the Future Tech-Experts registration portal was launched to aid and guide the Indian Telecom ecosystem. This initiative aligns with the Bharat 5G Portal’s objectives.

A special session titled “Bridging Dreams and Funding” was inaugurated, presenting innovative telecom products by 26 startups/MSMEs seeking funding. Over 10 venture capitalists/investors participated in discussions on contributing to the growth and scalability of these startups. Dr. Neeraj Mittal highlighted India’s rapid progress in 5G rollout, emphasizing that the country is already discussing 6G. He acknowledged India’s status as the second-largest telecom network globally and a trusted partner in technology collaborations.

During the India Mobile Congress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi awarded 100 “5G Use Case Labs” to educational institutions, connecting them through a dedicated portal. The labs serve as knowledge dissemination platforms for testing/developing 5G use cases.

The Bharat 5G Portal serves as a comprehensive platform capturing academic R&D developments, industry standards, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), startups/MSMEs, and subject matter experts. It aims to propel India’s 5G capabilities, fostering innovation, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing.

The initiatives, including the Bharat 5G Portal and 6G research proposals, showcase India’s commitment to technological advancement in the telecom sector and encourage collaboration between industry, startups, and academia.
